“Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn’t even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back.” ~Heraclitus, 500 B.C.

When love presents itself, take your shot.

Red, Hot, & Blue, Book 8

When Emily Price is assigned to an ad campaign featuring one of Uncle Sam’s finest soldiers, she’s thrilled. Who better to break up the monotonous parade of smooth, perfect models than a rough, war-hardened alpha male?

Maybe she’ll even get lucky like one of her colleagues and find romance. Unfortunately, when she meets her model, he’s more caveman than Prince Charming. Now her dreams of love—and her career—are dangling precariously from his callused fingertips.

Staff Sergeant David Hawk Hawkins never imagined refusing a command…until he loses a bet and is ordered off the battlefield and into a new role: poster boy for the Army’s recruiting campaign.

From the start, their relationship is more fire-and-ice than fairytale. Yet beneath their sparring simmers an attraction that finally explodes into a night of lovemaking that, after they part, haunts them to opposite sides of the globe.

But love isn’t through with them—and neither is the public. The campaign is a hit and Hawk becomes a star. Soon he and Emily are thrown together again, but this time it’s on Hawk’s turf, where flying bullets could settle their battle before it begins.

Warning: Contains sex hot enough to travel halfway around the world, and a love strong enough to bring them back home again.

“…the tension and explosive passion that fans have come to adore, along with a timely immersive love story between two delightful, and seemingly incompatible, characters that spans the globe… rich with detail, captivating and real. As always, Johnson’s characters are complex, endearing and their chemistry is delightfully steamy. The constant twists and turns of the plot are sure to keep readers on edge until the final scene.” RT Book Reviews 4 1/2 Stars

“Fun and intense and sweet and so much more would describe this addition to Cat Johnson’s Red, Hot and Blue series. Set with the backdrop of the Army and war, you would think that this story would be anything but fun, yet humor seeps in … the romance was fabulous and the characters awesome. I would make plans to read Model Soldier as soon as possible.” Terri, Night Owl Reviews TOP PICK

“…a fabulous read, and you won’t be lost at all if you haven’t read other books in the Red, Hot & Blue series… If you like deliciously alpha soldiers, slightly love-crazed advertising executives, and heart-pounding adventure on the edge of the war torn Middle East, then Model Soldier is the perfect book for you!” Elizabeth Viceroy, Sizzling Hot Book Reviews

“I enjoyed watching Emily and Hawk together as they first fought and then loved. Model Soldier isn’t anyone’s fairy tale, but has the real life bumps and bruises that come with falling in love, combined with the realities of life and war. A great story and continuation of a series that highlight the men in uniform we all love.” ~ Jo, Joyfully Reviewed

Q: Do I have to read the Red, Hot & Blue series in order?

A: No. Definitely not.

Each story can stand alone, but there are certain events in some of the stories that refer back to past stories. For instance, Books 1 through 3 tie together. Even though each love story is complete in each of the 3, there is a continuing story arc across them. Books 4-6 are the same situation in that each hero and love story stands on its own but the overall theme of the reality show arcs across all 3.

Q: How does the FREE short story BB Dalton fit into the series?

A: BB DALTON and MODEL SOLDIER are tied together in that you will appreciate and understand the background of Model Soldier best if you’ve also read BB’s story. However, both of these story lines are independent and can stand alone. Chronologically, BB’s story takes place about a year before the events of Model Soldier (#8).

Here’s the story in a nutshell–in BB DALTON (a RHB Bonus Read), BB is assigned to be a poster boy for a SpecOps recruiting compaign. It’s such a success that a year later, in MODEL SOLDIER (RHB #8) the guys in charge get the brilliant idea to replicate the campaign but for regular Army recruitment. So the marketing gurus working with the military need to find the perfect guy–a soldier who can represent the Army as well as BB represented SpecOps, and the GI in the crosshairs is Hawk, only he’s not as willing as BB was. It takes a little trickery and arm twisting to get him on board with the program and even then, he’s not happy. Though Emily, the marketing team’s rep, is a plus.

You can always refer to the SERIES READING ORDER page for details on all of my series.

Q: I read a review that called Model Soldier “a quick read”. Is it a short story or a novella?

A: No, Model Soldier is a full-length novel at 54,000 words (in accordance with Samhain’s classification for category length) and is available as both eBook and in paperback.

BB DALTON (Bonus Read)

    • Thank you, Teresa. So glad you enjoyed it. Actually, I never considered following the men in John’s unit for future books but I suppose I could. Wait until you read Model Soldier, though. I do give the side character of Ryan who you meet in MS his own story in A PRINCE AMONG MEN. Thanks for the question!
